History

Central Region Eating Disorder Services (CREDS) began in January 2007, after the former provider (Eating Disorder Services) withdrew from operation in December 2006. Since January a number of new staff have come on board, representing a range of disciplines and skill-bases. The service now employs 23 staff, many on a part time basis.

Philosophy

We see eating disorders as a coping strategy arising in response to personal, familial, cultural and societal pressures. We work towards challenging social values and belief systems, helping people address underlying issues, and mobilising a person's capacity for self-healing. We also work towards creating a society where:

  • eating disorders and size discrimination can no longer thrive
  • diverse images of women and men are presented in the media
  • all body sizes and shapes are valued
  • dieting and other harmful practices are discredited
  • natural eating is the norm
  • there is a general increase in the health and well-being of people.
